Specs & The City: Movie Cliches and ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’

My wife loves Crazy Stupid Love.  Loves.  So much I bet she’d read this article even though she’s not a screenwriter.

The purpose of the article actually is about more than that film.  It’s about cliches.  And here’s the big secret: It’s unavoidable.  Because even if you think you’ve written the most cliche-free script ever, someone who reads or see it is gonna find cliche in it.  Why?  Because every person’s experiences create their own range of what is cliche to them.

You might not be able to avoid cliches, but this article points out that you can give them a twist that can mask it being stamped as cliche.
